There are short-cuts to happiness, and dancing is one of them
Everyone knows that dancing is good for physical and mental health. Among other things, it reduces stress and depression, increases energy, improves flexibility and balance, strengthens the heart and helps to lose weight. And there’s no age limit – anyone can dance. All you need is a pair of comfortable shoes and some music.
However, if you want to learn ballroom dancing you need a partner. And if your partner threatens to divorce you unless you stop insisting on dancing lessons, you are forced to paddle your own canoe. But there are some moves you can learn without a partner. How about Zumba? It has recently become the most popular and versatile fitness group program. It mixes salsa, flamenco, meringue, mambo, rumba and other Latin dances into a powerful workout. The music is highly energetic and fun to dance to. No matter what your fitness level is – just move your body to the rhythm and be happy.
As usual I discovered my dancing coach on YouTube. The first instructor or rather instructors (because there are two of them) come from Russia and they call themselves Gusyaka Club. They are young, talented and pleasant to look at. And the way they dance is awe-inspiring. Their Zumba routines are not difficult to follow and always fun to do. No matter how tired I am, I always manage to get my lazy ass to do some of the moves with the boys. There are lots of videos on their channel and I like most of them. Here are my favourites so far: Bachata – No love, Arsenium – Bella Bella, Ricky Martin – La Mordidita, Jose De Rico & Henry Mendez – Noche De Estrellas, Chriz Pro y Kilber ft Mademanes – Salio el Sol, Alvaro Soler – El Mismo Sol.
If you have seen a music video Call on me then you know who is my next instructor. Deanne Berry and her sexy dance workout caused quite a sensation when released. I have got her 3 DVDs and every time I feel like dancing I just play one of them. My favourite is Pump it up! The Ultimate Dance Workout. The music is stimulating and the dance routine is easy to learn. The whole workout lasts for about an hour and twenty minutes but it’s divided into smaller sections. And thank God for that because you’ve got to have Arnold Schwarzenegger’s physical condition to do the entire thing without collapsing in the middle. If you think dancing is a piece of cake then try doing it for an hour and a half non-stop!
The other two DVDs: Clubland – Work It Out and Clubland – The Workout Of Your Life With Deanne Berry are also dancing routines. Deanne breaks down each dance and shows every step in slow motion first, before going to the next one.
In my opinion it’s fun to learn some great moves and exercise at the same time. So don’t hesitate – put on your dancing shoes and seize the dance floor.
