Just like Shakira’s, my hips don’t lie. Especially about the passing time or the injuries they sustained throughout the years. Some time ago I read an interesting article about hips in which the author stated that hips were a place where we stored our fears, emotional traumas and negative energy. No wonder mine are rusty and immovable. I am a walking, talking emotional wreck! Everything stresses me out! Spiders, bad weather, creepy-crawlies, my sister-in-law, stupid people, taxes, my boss. The list goes on and on! Life of a neurotic is tough!
I devote a lot of time to hip stretching but I can’t boast about huge improvement in this area. I could give up and stop torturing myself. After all, I can live without doing splits and ballet jumps. However, the mobility and stability of joints are vital to health.
As the body grows older the joints become stiffer and less flexible. The fluid in joints decreases and that may result in cartilage damage. Exercise is one of the best ways to slow or prevent problems with the muscles, joints, and bones. I know I can maintain strength, balance and flexibility in my hips by regular and proper workout.
I have recently discovered a great YouTube channel called physicaltherapyvideo. Two wonderful physical therapists, Bob Schrupp and Brad Heineck, share their vast knowledge and experience in their highly informative videos. They explain every aspect of the injury and show how to strengthen and stretch the offending body part. My favourite hip video is Best Hip Strengthening Exercises for the Athlete.
I’ve been training with Mr. Schrupp and Mr. Heineck for the last three weeks and I already see a great improvement. I know that I’ve still got a long way to go, but with these two amazing gentlemen my hips (and the rest of my body) will be safe and in perfect working condition!
If you are a health-conscious person and you look for ways to improve your strength and flexibility, visit physicaltherapyvideo and let Bob and Brad be your guides. I promise you won’t regret it.
Stay healthy! Stay strong!
